How Will Privy Work With My Ecommerce Store?

What makes Privy different than competitors?

There are a couple that really stand out. They have an immense amount of integrations, which means most likely they work with your existing tech stack.

They now have the email automation functionality, which could be a substitute for a tool like Klaviyo, at least for some components of your marketing automation.

Their segmentation components are super powerful. Being able to dynamically segment users and serve them the right type of offer based on whether they’ve purchased before, what pages they visit, the size of their cart, the products in their cart, or user-input like if they tell you they have a cat or dog. So cool. 

What metrics is Privy going to improve for my Ecommerce store?

The most important metric is absolutely on-site conversion rate. You should be seeing more users make it through the funnel.

Secondary metric: email list size, it should grow faster when you implement privy appropriately. This means stronger brand awareness and your sales campaigns should be more successful.

Who has to manage Privy and how long does it take to setup?

You would want your head of marketing or digital marketing manager (or yourself as the CEO) managing segmentation, branding, and copywriting.

You may need to bring in a designer and chat with your head of Ecommerce to determine the best product or discount strategy.

You would want to spend about 5 hours setting up Privy with as much detailed segmentation as possible, pulling in your own branded images and offer copywriting.

From there you may spend up to an hour a week adding and tweaking offers, adjusting A/B tests and analyzing results.

When should you use Privy?

I believe a pop-up builder should be used at all stages of your business. You should at least have something basic setup from day 1. But most specifically with Privy, you would go with them over more generic tools when you really care about on-site conversion rate, testing multiple creatives and offers, and driving the growth of your store.

Also, as you grow traffic, even at the 10,000+ visitors/month mark, you will really need a tool like Privy to get more granular with your segmentation and targeting.

When shouldn't you use Privy?

If you’re just going to do one boring generic pop-up across your site, or if you aren’t going to segment and optimize your email collection strategy, I may consider a cheaper, simpler alternative.

Now, a lot of people might be saying, “I hate pop-ups” and “I never fill them out.” Two things on that:

  1. You don’t have to make these annoying or instant. Setup timing that makes sense to you.
  2. Just because you think this is annoying, doesn’t mean it actually is. A well-done pop-up is a great way to get interaction from your site visitors and drive deep engagement. You need to put behind this concept of a “bad” pop-up and focus on what you can do to creatively inspire your site visitors to join your tribe.
