It took a while, but with the advancement of technology, I can confidently say that there are many omnichannel solutions out there that are better than the "sum of their parts." (Meaning piece-mealing a solution together yourself)
The best Omnichannel apps are very good at collecting user information - primarily phone and email - and then using channels like email, SMS, push, WhatsApp, Messenger, Snapchat, Apple Business Chat, Live Chat, etc., to continue to market to users, in an automated way.
The one thing you really want to look for is the apps ability to automate across channels, and track behavior across channels.
