What is Dialogue?

Dialogue is a self-serve personalization platform for Shopify and Shopify Plus merchants. You can build 4 different personalization assets inside their tool.  You can either have an automated personalization engine or build a manual segment for product recommendations.

Their personalization templates make it really easy to get moving, with auto-branding buttons to pull in brand colors from your store and update your assets instantly.

There are 4 different personalization assets inside their tool:

  • Smart Banner - typically across the homepage, includes a marketing message and call to action and is personalized to each user in real-time.
  • Recommender - the traditional AI-powered recommendation bar of 3-4 other products at the bottom of a product detail page or in another page.
  • Storyteller - a few slides of content with a similar layout to a banner but meant to convey a longer message or explain how to use a product. Can be embedded on homepage, in blog posts, on category pages, or on the product detail page.
  • Booster - recommends complementary products instead of related products. Usually placed on the cart page. Best for increasing Average Order Value (AOV).

You create the asset once, select a placement, say on your homepage, and then their AI will automatically decide the product displayed inside that asset based on user behavior and their algorithm.

You can also customize the asset messaging to include dynamic fields such as the product title, description, product type, price, brand, or any other tag you want to create. The key thing here is that it is dynamically inserted for each SKU, because you do not want to have to create one custom message for every SKU.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

What makes Dialogue different than competitors?

Their assets are easily malleable, meaning you can easily change how your banners or recommendations look, what is displayed, what images are used, etc. And you can do this easily across all of your SKUs, not just 1-1. This is huge for high SKU stores or stores that are constantly changing their SKUs.

What metrics is Dialogue going to improve for my Ecommerce store?

There are two ways to test how Dialogue is working for your store. Google analytics tracking and straight split testing.

When you look at interactions with their widget, they see up to a 500% increase in likelihood to purchase for those that interacted. From raw split testing data, they see:

  • 10%-35% increase in conversion rate,
  • up to 30% increase in AOV,
  • up to 50% increase in session time.

Who has to manage Dialogue and how long does it take to setup?

Setup can be as fast as 10 minutes to launch for Shopify and Plus brands, or up to a week depending on how many different functionalities you want to execute on and whether there are any custom coding requirements, dev/test environments you have to roll out on first, etc. This shouldn’t be a problem for any Shopify or Plus brand that doesn’t have a complicated front-end.

Most of your setup time is in building assets (and that slick one-click auto-branding makes this really easy).

From there, watch the revenue roll in. Keep an eye on changes to your conversion rate, average order value, and session time, and make any manual adjustments that may be needed.

Is Dialogue right for my store?

Personalization tools are always more valuable for high SKU, high traffic stores, starting at around 25,000 visitors a month. As your visitors a month go up, the value of a personalization tool increases. If you’re at 50,000 visitors a month and aren’t using personalization, now is the time to invest.
